STATESBORO - A two-RBI double from
Janai Conklin in the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie as the Georgia Southern softball team took down ULM 3-1 Saturday evening in the finale of a three-game series at Eagle Field.
After a scoreless first two innings, the Eagles finally broke through in the third inning.
Courtney Ball doubled and scored on
Dejah Mills' sharp single to left field to make it 1-0. The Warhawks responded with a run in the fourth on a solo home run.
In the fifth inning, Conklin fought off several pitches before driving one to right field to score
Faith Barth and
Emma Davis and make it 3-1.
That would be enough for Morgan Kendick (W, 6-1) who held the lead for the final two innings. She went the distance, allowing one run on five hits with three strikeouts.
Picking up hits for the Eagles were Ball (2), Mills, Conklin, Barth, Davis,
Olivia Creamer and
Kinley Stewart (2).
The Eagles will be back in action next weekend, traveling to Virginia for a three-game series at James Madison.
