Box Score 2 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Georgia Southern softball scored twice in the seventh inning to edge UMass, 4-3, and earn a split in Saturday's action in the FSU Dugout Club Classic in Tallahassee, Fla. The Eagles lost to host and No. 5-ranked Florida State, 4-0, in their other game on Saturday.
The Eagles (10-9) will wrap up action in the Classic with a single game on Sunday, facing the No. 5-ranked Seminoles at 11:15 a.m.
GAME ONE: Georgia Southern 4, UMass 3
The Eagles trailed the Minutewomen (3-9), 3-1, heading into the top of the sixth inning in Saturday's first game. An RBI groundout by Brooke Kell in the sixth inning brought Georgia Southern within one run.
In the top of the seventh, Janai Conklin launched her first home run of the year to tie things up at 3-all. Dejah Mills followed with a double, then two batters later, Olivia Creamer drove home pinch runner Janiyah Strong from third with a sacrifice fly for the winning run.
Morgan Kendrick (5-0) entered the game in the fourth inning and hurled 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief, walking three and striking out one to earn the win in the circle for the Eagles. Natalee Horton (1-2) took the loss for the Minutewomen, giving up eight hits and four runs in 6 1/3 innings of work, walking four and striking out one.
Creamer drove in a pair of runs on two hits to lead the Eagles offensively, while Mills also recorded a pair of hits.
GAME TWO: No. 5 Florida State 4, Georgia Southern 0
Florida State (18-3) sent 10 batters to the plate in a four-run fourth inning to pick up the shutout win over the Eagles in Saturday's second game.
Kathryn Sandercock earned the win for the Seminoles with 4 2/3 innings of two-hit shutout relief, striking out two. Bailey Holland (3-5) took the loss for the Eagles in a complete-game performance, giving up five hits and four runs in six innings, walking five.
Faith Barth went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Eagles offensively.
