Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE - North Florida used a two-out rally in the sixth inning of game one to collect a doubleheader sweep of Georgia Southern softball on Wednesday afternoon in Jacksonville. The Ospreys won game one, 4-3, then took game two, 3-0.
The Ospreys improve to 26-20-1 with the wins, stretching their current win streak to five. Georgia Southern falls to 17-28 overall. The Eagles are next in action on Friday evening, opening up a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Troy with a 7 p.m. contest.
GAME ONE: North Florida 4, Georgia Southern 3
The Ospreys used a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to score the game-winning run and edge the Eagles, 4-3, in the first game of the doubleheader.
Georgia Southern opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Faith Barth led off the game with a double, then later came home on Katie Perkins' RBI single for the 1-0 advantage.
The Ospreys took a 2-1lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run double by Abi Annett. The Eagles quickly equalized in the top of the second inning on an RBI double by Barth, making the score 2-2. Barth is the second Eagle to have two doubles in a game this season, joining Janai Conklin, who had two doubles against Georgia State on April 15.
A solo home run from Shannon Glover put the Ospreys in front, 3-2, in the top of the third. The score remained 3-2 until the sixth inning, when Dejah Mills delivered a two-out RBI single to tie the score at 3-all.
With two out and nobody on in the bottom of the sixth inning, North Florida rallied for the winning run thanks a single, a walk and then an RBI single by Kelsey Vogel.
Ashley Connor (10-12) earned the win in relief for the Ospreys, giving up two hits and one run in three innings of work, walking two while striking out two. Morgan Kendrick (8-5) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up two hits and one run in two innings of relief, walking one.
Barth also drew a pair of walks in her 2-for-2 game at the plate, scoring twice to go with her two doubles.
GAME TWO: North Florida 5, Georgia Southern 0
Skyler Stockie hurled a no-hitter and North Florida rapped out 11 hits to complete the doubleheader sweep with the 5-0 win in game two.
The Ospreys plated one run in the first on an RBI single by Chloe Cup, then added a run in the fourth on an RBI single by Mackenzie Woods.
North Florida tacked on a run in the fifth via an error, then added two in the sixth.
The Eagles' Faith Barth drew a walk in the third, and two runners reached via an error, but that would be all the offense Georgia Southern could manage.
Alana Barnard (1-7) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up 11 hits and five runs - four earned - in five-plus innings of work, walking two and striking out a season high-tying six.
Stockie improved to 3-2 on the year with the win for UNF.
