Box Score TROY - Troy used a five-run third inning to collect an 11-3 six-inning Sun Belt Conference softball victory over visiting Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon in Troy.
The Trojans earn the series win with the victory, moving to 32-15-1 overall and 13-6-1 in the Sun Belt. Georgia Southern falls to 17-30 overall and 6-14 in the league with the loss. The two teams will wrap up their three-game series with a 1:30 p.m. ET Sunday contest.
As they did on Friday, Troy took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-out RBI single by Katelynn de Leon.
The Eagles struck back with two runs in the top of the third inning. Janai Conklin led off the frame with a double, then later scored on an RBI single by Katie Perkins. Kinley Stewart followed two batters later with her own RBI single, scoring Dejah Mills.
Troy then took the lead for good in the bottom of the third with five runs, keyed by a grand slam home run from Anslee Finch.
The Trojans tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, extending their lead to 8-2. The Eagles got one back in the top of the fifth inning off the bat of Brooke Kell, scoring Olivia Creamer.
The Trojans ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with three runs.
Haley Pittman (1-0) notched the win in the circle for the Trojans, giving up four hits and one unearned run in 2 2/3 innings of work, walking two and striking out one. Kastin Belogorska (1-2) took the loss for the Eagles, giving up eight hits and six runs - four earned - in 4 1/3 innings of work, walking two and striking out two.
Katie Perkins' 2-for-4 day with an RBI led the Eagles offensively.
