Georgia Southern finishes weekend trip to Florida 1-1; begins a six-match homestand on Thursday vs. No. 69 Samford
DELAND, Fla. - Stetson men's tennis edged visiting Georgia Southern, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon in DeLand, Fla.
The Hatters improve to 6-4 on the season with the win, while Georgia Southern falls to 5-4 after splitting its weekend of play in Florida. The Eagles will begin a six-match homestand on Thursday, hosting No. 69 Samford in a 2 p.m. contest at the Wallis Tennis Center.
The Eagles began play on Sunday like they did on Saturday against North Florida, taking the doubles point. Gregoire Delattre and Davis Taylor claimed a 7-6 win at No. 1 doubles, while Albert Saar and Edoardo Santoni did the same with a 7-6 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, though, the Hatters won four of six first sets to get the early advantage. Stetson won quickly at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, but Albert Widell notched a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles to keep the Eagles close. Stetson took a 3-2 lead with a win at No. 3 singles and the two remaining matches went to three sets.
Davis Taylor evened the match up at 3-all with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, but Stetson would clinch the victory with a three-set win at No. 6 singles.
