Wednesday of each week during the football season Georgia Southern Athletics will catch up with a former coach, administrator, student-athlete, trainer, cheerleader, etc. to see where they are now and how their time at Georgia Southern helped get them there.

Caroline Bevillard
Assistant Director of Development at the University of Tennessee

A four-year (2007-2011) member of the Georgia Southern swimming and diving team, Caroline Bevillard was named a 2011 Capital One Academic All-American, recipient of a postgraduate scholarship from the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics and was named the GSU Female Scholar  Athlete of the Year. Bevillard broke a 15-year-old 200 Free school record in 2009 and was a part of school-record setting 800 Freestyle Relay team at the CCSA Championships in 2009.

Q: What are some of the most memorable moments as an Eagle?

CB: One of the most memorable moments for me as an Eagles was of our 800 Freestyle Relay from the conference championships in 2009. We went into the championships seeded sixth and had no real expectations. It turned out to be a real tight race, and we ended up making the podium, breaking the school record. It came down to the last few yards and Ali Campbell, who is now the assistant coach, closed it out for us. It was really exciting and the team was swimming really well.

Q: How did your experience as a student-athlete at Georgia Southern prepare you for life after college?

CB: I credit my time as a swimmer under Nate Kellogg for instilling me with a strong work effort and teach me to set goals. It really built the person I am today. Georgia Southern as a whole contributed to that. It taught me goal setting, time management and each day having structure and schedule and goals to meet.

Q: Give fans an idea on what you are doing now?

CB: I am in fundraising and development for the University of Tennessee Athletic Department, and we are really striving to provide our student-athletes with the tools necessary to achieve comprehensive excellence. That is simply put giving them the tools they need to compete for championships and earn their degrees day in and day out. It was an opportunity that I was afforded at Georgia Southern and something that I am very passionate about. This is my way of giving back to everything that Georgia Southern offered me, afforded me and taught me when I was a student-athlete. I want to give the next wave of student athletes the same opportunities.

Q: Favorite Story about your head coach?

CB: Freshman year (2007), we had a dual meet at Davidson and the whole team was saying that we were going the wrong way. We ended up going two hours south instead of to North Carolina, and we showed up right when the meet was suppose to start at 6 p.m. He had us do a speed warm up, and he was trying to stay calm the whole time and making sure that we didn't feel panicked.

Q: Favorite place you played?

CB: I am from Athens, Ga., and getting to finish my career at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the University of Georgia's campus kind of tied everything up for me. That is where I grew up training and that is where my career started. I was able to close the door on my career where it started. It was one of the best meets of my life.
