Why did Georgia Southern adopt this policy for athletic events?
This policy was adopted to expedite entry and to provide a safe environment for all patrons, student-athletes, staff and officials. This proactive measure makes our game day safer inside and outside of the stadium area. Patrons deserve to be in a safe, fan-friendly environment. The clear bag policy is endorsed by security personnel and groups all over the country.
How does this improve public safety?
Clear bags provide layers of security with less inconvenience to our guests and patrons. As patrons walk toward our events, event security personnel can easily spot prohibited items and have the ability to resolve issues before they even get into line. Clear bags are easier and faster to search, thus greatly reducing faulty bag searches. The policy supports the Department of Homeland Security's "See Something, Say Something" campaign. Additionally, inside the venue, staff members know that a clear bag has already been searched and that any non-clear bag without a security tag requires their attention.
How many bags can a fan bring in?
Each ticketed patron may carry one large clear bag – either a one-gallon Ziploc-style bag or the 12" x 12" x 6" clear bag – plus a small purse that does not exceed 4.5" x 6.5". The small purse must be carried into the venue outside the clear bag and is subject to search.
Do I have to put everything I am carrying in a clear plastic bag?
No. We are only limiting the type of bags that can be brought into a Georgia Southern athletic venue, not your every day items. (Ex: patrons may continue to carry in their pockets things like keys, makeup, feminine products, combs, phones, wallets, credit cards, etc.). You may also carry a blanket in and have binoculars/cameras around your neck or in your hands. You cannot, however, bring in cases for those two items.
Can I bring in my own seat back or chair?
As of the 2019 football season, personal chairs and seat backs are not permitted to enter Allen E. Paulson Stadium for football games. Each guest is permitted one seat cushion that does not exceed 17" in width and may not have backs, pockets, arms or legs. Eagle Seat Rentals are also available inside Allen E. Paulson Stadium for fans to lease on game day for $10/seat. Seat backs will continue to be permitted for all other ticketed sports events, but may not have pockets, arms or legs.
Can the concession stand's refillable mug and/or popcorn pail still be brought in?
Yes, these items may be carried or put in the clear plastic bag. Also, the lid must be off the mug and have no liquid inside upon entering.
What about diaper bags?
Diaper bags will be allowed when accompanied with a baby/small child at all gates. The bag will be screened and tagged before entering.
What if I have medical equipment that makes it necessary for a larger bag?
Patrons needing necessary medical equipment will have to go through the same screening process as those with a diaper bag and will have the bag tagged before entering.
What happens if I show up without a clear plastic bag to Paulson Stadium?
One-gallon plastic storage bags will be available at Gate 7A at the ticket windows. They may also be purchased at the bookstore. Georgia Southern University, however, does not have provisions to check any item at the gates. Patrons must store prohibited items securely in their vehicles/dorms.
May I bring my purse?
Yes, as long as it meets the size requirements. A small purse (4.5" x 6.5"), with or without a handle or strap, is permitted along with either the 12" x 12" x 6" clear tote bag or one-gallon freezer bag.
If I am a stadium employee, media personnel or staff member working the event, does the Clear Bag Policy apply to me?
Credentialed individuals will enter the stadium through designated gates. These individuals and any items that they bring into the stadium will be screened based on procedures that are already in place. Once screened, the bags will be temporarily tagged, showing that the bag has been screened and approved.
Does this policy affect the ability of patrons to tailgate? Are there limitations on tailgating items?
No. Please visit GSEagles.com/GameDay to learn more about any tailgating restrictions.
Are other universities/venues limiting bags?
Yes. Universities, professional sports teams and venues across the nation are implementing a Clear Bag Policy, including other Sun Belt Conference member schools.
Can I rent/lease seats?
Yes, Georgia Southern Athletics offers a way for football ticket holders to enhance their comfort and game day experience at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. Eagle Seats— padded chairbacks— are high quality products and add additional comfort to the game day experience. Eagle Seats lease for the season as well as on a single-game basis.
